My Story

For 13 years, I worked for the Hillsborough County Public School system as the School Counselor for the IB program at Strawberry Crest High School in Dover, Florida.

Along the way, I gained tons of skills and knowledge to assist students and their families find success through the IB program, along with college after, and everything in between. Since HCPS places its IB programs primarily at magnet schools, my time recruiting for the program also opened me to the ins and outs of the different magnet programs HCPS offers, and the differences between each. I've also learned that helping young students with such big decisions is especially tough, considering their personal pace of growth and development. I learned how to take so many outside variables into consideration in my practice as a school counselor and an truly passionate about helping students find their next steps in life.

While I loved my job there, I faced challenges fueling my passion for helping students and balancing my home life. So I started The School Geek to be able to still do what I love, but also have the important time I need for my own family.

I have 2 kids, aged 12 and 10, and have been married to my husband Chris for 17 years. Being a mom has shaped my counseling practice immensely and I take a caring approach to helping students, as if they were my own.
